Dear Winkelman Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We hope you’ve had the most amazing summer and are looking forward to what we will call the year of “Mission Possible.” Our school theme, “Mission Possible,” embodies what our Winkelman staff, administration, and students are being charged with this year. This year will be full of possibilities, accomplishments, and a year where everyone will be encouraged and challenged to grow and learn new things. We are grateful that you’ve chosen Winkelman as the second home for your students and family. If you are a returning family, welcome back! If you are new to Winkelman, we are glad you are here!

We are incredibly excited to welcome some new faces to the Winkelman staff this year.

  • Eva Kennicott, K-2 Resource Teacher/Interventionist
  • Ashley Catizone, K-2 SLE Teacher
  • TBD, First Grade Teacher
  • TBD, Second Grade Teacher
  • Kristie Cerniglia, District Librarian
  • TBD, Speech Pathologist

Teacher assignments for students in Preschool-5th grade will be mailed home on August 10. Please look for this important information to arrive in the mail. They will not be available through the parent portal in Skyward.

We hope you will join us on August 17th for our annual Meet the Teacher event from 1:00-2:30 p.m. This brief period is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, visit the classroom before the first day, and drop off your child’s school supplies in advance. If you ordered a school supply kit in the spring, it will be delivered to your child’s classroom on or before August 17th. We would also like to invite you to join our PTO on the playground from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for Popsicles on the Playground. Here, your child will have a chance to reconnect with old friends, meet new friends, and you’ll have an opportunity to mingle with other parents.

On August 18th, we invite you to meet your child’s teacher on the playground as we welcome our students back to school for the first day. Please arrive by 7:50 a.m. We will enter the building promptly at 8:10 a.m. on the first day of school. If your child rides the bus, staff members will be available to assist them with finding their teacher.

This year, school will begin promptly at 8:05 a.m. This time change is partly due to the fact that we would like to capitalize on the instructional time that we have available to students. Students will be considered tardy if they are not in the building at 8:05 a.m. Students may arrive and enter the building at 7:50 a.m. each morning. School will dismiss promptly at 2:40 p.m.

This year we will not use the PikMyKid app. Parents should, however, place their child’s name on the front dash in the car to assist staff with identifying who they are picking their child up from school each day.

Finally, we are excited to work closely with you as partners in your child’s educational journey. We hope you will join us this year as we work together to ensure that every child learns to his/her full potential. Your engagement as a parent partner is essential to the success of your child. We are excited to start a new year with you!  This will be an amazing year of “Missions Possible.”

With Your Child In Mind,
