The West Northfield School District 31 Board of Education has selected Mr. Darrin Stern to fill the board member vacancy left by former member Meredith Estes. As a small business owner, Mr. Stern has extensive experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and project management. He also has deep ties in the community through his volunteerism and community engagement.

In 2009, Mr. Stern founded a non-profit organization, the Chicago Clean Energy Alliance, and served as the president from 2011 to 2013. In 2016, Mr. Stern joined the District 31 Education Foundation and served as the Co-Chair for the Winter Benefit. In 2017, he served as President. During his tenure, the Education Foundation raised money to complete Maker Spaces, funded improvements for outdoor play areas, and reinstituted direct teacher grants. Mr. Stern has two daughters currently at Field Middle School.

“I want to serve as an interim member of the Board of Education because I am passionate about education and can positively contribute to the community by serving on the board,” said Mr. Stern. “Education is the foundation of our society, and every student deserves a high-quality, equal education that prepares them for a successful future. As an interim board member, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our schools provide the best possible education.”

“District 31 is pleased to welcome Mr. Stern to the Board this coming April. Mr. Stern’s passion, community-mindedness, and experiences make him a wonderful addition to the board,” said Superintendent Dr. Erin Murphy.

Mr. Stern will officially take office April 27, 2023 and serve through April 2025. The District 31 Board of Education thanks the community members who expressed an interest in this vacancy.
